Take a Proactive Approach to Disaster Planning

Last year was extremely challenging for North American disaster-response teams. They had to deal with devastating wildfires in British Columbia and California, tornadoes in Ontario and Quebec, and full-scale flooding across Canada. According to the Insurance Bureau of Canada, weather-driven insurance claims have more than quadrupled over the last decade.

Statistics show that businesses without a tested emergency management plan in place are more likely to fail within three years of a major incident. That’s why it’s vital for communities and businesses to understand and prepare for disaster resilience. Dave Demos, our Chief Executive Officer and long-time leader in our industry, contributed his observations to the National Post on the importance of business owners and communities being forward-looking when it comes to disaster planning.
