Since April 1, British Columbia has been in the grips of one of its worst wildfire seasons in over 60 years. Over 900 fires have displaced over 19,000 residents, destroyed countless hectares of land, and caused untold millions of dollars in damages.
Restoring B.C.’s affected communities is a task that’s fallen to many agencies, first responders, and firms.
REMI (Real Estate Management Industry News) spoke with one of our senior project managers – Jim Mandeville – for an update on recovery efforts.
FirstOnSite draws on experience from the Fort McMurray wildfires of May 2016 to serve customers with faster, more efficient restoration processes. At a time when emergency planning is more important than ever, FirstOnSite has also invested in technology and strengthened its senior management team.
We are pleased to share the news that we have strengthened our senior management team in our Ontario Region by promoting Dennis Van Luit to the newly created role of Director of Operations – Central Region. Dennis joins the leadership team with Jason Prescott who was appointed Senior Vice President of the region in April 2016.
This Sunday marked the start of Emergency Preparedness Week, an annual national event coordinated by Public Safety Canada, in close collaboration with the provinces, territories and partners. The timing could not be more fitting as the four-year anniversary of the Alberta Floods and one-year anniversary of Fort McMurray wildfires hover in the collective consciousness. Meanwhile, homeowners and businesses continue to hold down the fort amid a new breed of storms – constant reminders that climate change is causing a spike in natural disasters.
