Major Canadian Retailer Gets Back to Business Quickly Thanks to Emergency Plan.

Major Canadian Retailer Gets Back to Business Quickly Thanks to Emergency Plan

The World Conference on Disaster Management is an annual conference bringing together global experts in emergency planning and preparedness. They just introduced a biweekly electronic newsletter called Disaster Management Times and included an article written by FirstOnSite’s John Stephenson, our National Director, Property Management in their inaugural issue. John discusses not only the importance for property managers to have an emergency response plan in place, but also in having the right partners on board as an important element of that plan.

“Our company knows emergency management is critical and we recommend that other property managers take a good look at their disaster plans and see if they can benefit from engaging with a trusted partner like ours,” said Joe De Faria, Director of Property Management, CREIT Management L.P. “It’s been one of the best investments we’ve made this year.”

From the hurricanes on the east coast to the windstorms in Southern Ontario, from the wild fires that devastated the town of Slave Lake to the Vancouver Stanley Cup riots, from the Manitoba floods to the F3 tornado that touched down in Goderich, weather events in 2011 took a heavy toll on our communities.

FirstOnSite mobilized manpower and resources and responded en force to each of these situations: whether damages were residential, commercial, industrial or a combination of all three.

In March, members of FirstOnSite supported and participated in the 31st annual Ontario General Insurance Hockey Tournament, in Kitchener, Ontario.

In March, members of FirstOnSite supported and participated in the 31st annual Ontario General Insurance Hockey Tournament, in Kitchener, Ontario. This year’s event raised approximately $40,000 for Camp McGovern, a camp in Hanover, Ontario dedicated to providing underprivileged youth the opportunity to go to camp, and for the Scouts Canada Everton Camp.

FirstOnSite has been proudly supporting the OGI Hockey Tournament for the better part of the last 16 years, and was a platinum sponsor for the 2012 event.

This year’s tournament was held at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium complex and other sites throughout Kitchener. Approximately 50 teams from a variety of sponsors participated in the fundraiser.

FirstOnSite fielded 4 teams this year, and while our teams didn’t exactly make it to the playoffs, we were happy to be supporting the OGI’s efforts through our sponsorship and event donations.

“The OGI puts on a great event for a great cause every year” says Warren Tom, Senior Vice President, Central Region. “It keeps growing and raising ever-more funds to support these great causes, and we are pleased to be able to support their efforts”.

Not including this year’s efforts, the event has raised more than $350,000 for local causes over the last 9 years.
